On Thursday, the Monongalia County Health Department’s (MCHD) Quick Response team spent the day giving out “Narcan” at several populous places around the area, including West Virginia University. The distribution was part of the larger-scale “Free Naloxone Day,” an event held by the team twice a year to distribute boxes of Narcan and teach people how to use it. “Narcan is really important for students because students are often using recreational drugs,” Quick Response Team Coordinator Brittany Irick said. “So, we want to educate students and give them Narcan to let them know to be mindful of these recreational drugs or other substances that they’re taking—that they might be laced with fentanyl.”
