VIDEO: Residents of Newburg, West Virginia in Southern Preston County have growing concerns about bridges in the area. Residents like Roy Tichnell say the main bridge downtown was supposed to have been replaced years ago. “It literally scares me when I have to bring my granddaughter across the bridge to go to Chuck’s Store,” said Tichnell. Community members are saying that little is being done to stabilize at least 3 bridges. Newburg Volunteer Firefighter Nichole Larew says she’s worried about people’s safety. “You know [DOH] come out and patch the top, but the structure of the bridges are compromised, the bridges need to be redone; it’s not a matter of patching the holes on top of these bridges,” said Larew. Another bridge at the intersection of Route 92 and Birds Creek Road has been noted as particularly dangerous. Tichnell says a whole section of the guardrail has been missing since last fall.
