Volunteers with the American Red Cross went door-to-door in Kanawha County communities where they offered to install new and free smoke alarms. It’s all part of the “Sound the Alarm” program. “We are installing free smoke alarms, going door-to-door and doing free fire escape planning and making sure that people know how to keep their home safer from the most common disaster that the American Red Cross responds to -- and that is that everyday home fires that we find ourselves responding to here in our own community and across the country,” said Erica Mani, Regional CEO within the American Red Cross. The American Red Cross is in partnership with the Kanawha County Commission, city of Charleston, Charleston Fire Department and donors.
