VIDEO: On Thursday afternoon, the Wheeling Police and Fire departments hosted their annual public safety ceremony.
The ceremony honored those who risked their lives to save others.
Both the police and fire chiefs spoke and mentioned some of the difficult situations each of these men and women are put in daily.
"You may not know it, but I can assure you the citizens don't grasp the magnitude of what the men and women of each our department do on a daily basis,” Police Chief Shawn Schwertfeger said.
"We do this periodically to honor the men and women of our department for milestones we reach in our career and recognizing those instances where they've gone above and beyond to create a good outcome,” Fire Chief Jim Blazier said.
