2 firefighters treated for dehydration following fire at meat market in New Roads


VIDEO: Two firefighters and one other person were treated for minor injuries following a fire at a meat market in New Roads late Friday night, May 10. According to the Pointe Coupee Fire District 5 chief, the fire happened at the Robillard’s Meat Market on Hospital Road. Firefighters got the call about the fire around 10:20 p.m. and had the flames under control by around 11 p.m. The chief said the damage was contained to the smokehouse portion of the building. Video of the scene shows smoke pouring from the roof. The two firefighters were treated on the scene for dehydration, while the third person suffered an arm injury and was also treated at the scene. At this time, the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Natchitoches Parish Fire Department battles structure fire near Marthaville


PHOTOS: The Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office released information about a structure fire near Marthaville on Sunday, May 12. According to authorities, NPFD #7 and NPSO deputies began battling a structure fire in the 3700 block of La. Hwy 487 Sunday afternoon after receiving a 911 call at around 2 p.m. NPFD #7 also requested mutual aid assistance from Sabine Parish. Two of the residents’ dogs reportedly perished in the fire and the home is considered to be completely lost. No injuries were reported.

Arson the cause of house fire in Baton Rouge


A house fire on Sumrall Drive has displaced six people, one from the home where the fire originated along with five people from a neighboring home. The Baton Rouge Fire Department responded to the house fire on Thursday, May 9 around 1:30 p.m. According to officials, the fire happened in the 5000 block of Sumrall Drive near Oakwood Drive. Firefighters say they arrived on the scene to find a 2003 Toyota Corolla engulfed in flames under the carport. The fire had already reached the attic of the home as well as the house next door. The electric meter to the home next door was damaged by the fire. Crews were able to contain the fire before major damage could be done to the neighboring home, however, the home where the fire originated is considered a total loss, according to officials.
