It's been a decade since the creation of the Arkansas Trauma System.
Since its launch, it's estimated the number of preventable injury-related deaths have been cut in half.
"It’s really helped those patients who otherwise might not be here today to be back with their families," Branch Chief of Trauma Greg Brown said. The coordinated system links EMS providers to the closest hospital that provides the care needed for a patient.
62 hospitals make up the system and follow guidelines to help route emergency providers and patients to the right places .
"The system is really important to every Arkansan," Brown said. "Whether you live in a county with a small hospital, or a large metro area like Little Rock."
Arkansas was one of the last states in the country to set up a state-wide trauma system.
