VIDEO: Following Monday’s eclipse, travelers flooded the roads to head home, causing some traffic backups. But one first responder was pleased with how traffic flowed throughout his town. In Pocahontas, Fire Chief Scott Baltz explained other than a serious car accident and small calls, it was a normal day. “Everything was good. Had a good crowd. Everyone played well together, and everyone went home,” Chief Baltz stated. The chief said they were prepared to respond to a higher volume of calls, but dispatch was never overwhelmed. “I estimate around 5,000 [calls],” Baltz said. “Glad all the people came to visit and had a good time, happy everyone is going home safe.” The chief added that Highway 67 near town was backed up for a short time after the eclipse had ended, but there were no major backups anywhere else in the county.
