The Caldwell Fire Department is investigating the cause of a fire that destroyed a building at a trailer production shop. Crews were dispatched to the fire at 3:46 a.m. Friday in the area of Highway 19 and Pinto Avenue and found a fully involved fire at Criterion Trailers LLC. The northwest corner of the building used for painting trailers collapsed due to the fire, said Caldwell Fire Chief Mark Wendelsdorf. Limited water supply made fighting the fire difficult at first, said Wendelsdorf. An onsite water storage tank was used initially. Seven fire departments responded to the fire, mostly to shuttle in additional water, he said. No one was injured or present at the business when the fire department arrived on scene. Crews were out fighting the fire and mopping up until around 8 a.m. Investigators are now exploring what caused the fire.
