The Star Fire District is asking voters to consider a $4 million bond this November to purchase and equip a new fire station and fire district headquarters to keep up with the growth of the district.
Star Fire Station No. 1, located at 10831 W. State St. in downtown Star, was built in 1985 to house one volunteer firefighter. Today the station houses 12 full-time firefighters and needs upgrades in order to “maintain the current demand for fire and EMS services,” Star Fire District Chief Greg Timinsky said.
According to a letter Timinsky sent to Star voters, the district hired an architect to evaluate the station No. 1 building, which said to fulfill some of the current needs of the district the station would need a complete remodel to add square footage and bring the building up to code.
