A grill fire caused the evacuation and temporary closure of a popular Pocatello eatery on Monday evening. The fire at Golden Corral Buffet & Grill, 850 Yellowstone Ave., occurred around 6:45 p.m. Restaurant employees told the Idaho State Journal that there were about 200 customers in the restaurant when the grill fire ignited and they were all safely evacuated. The fire did not result in any injuries but Golden Corral employees said the restaurant will be shut down for the rest of Monday night and it's unclear when or if it will reopen on Tuesday. Pocatello firefighters quickly extinguished the fire, which was contained to the grill and did not cause any other damage to the restaurant. Fire Department officials said they told Golden Corral's managers that they could reopen the restaurant following the fire but the managers made a decision to close the eatery for at least the remainder of the evening.
