Fremont County’s Emergency Management team has advised winter recreationists to be cautious of inevitable terrain and human-caused avalanches in the area.
Fremont County emergency responders answered a call last week involving a snowmobiler who was injured in an avalanche near Keg Springs in Island Park, according to a statement released on social media platforms.
According to the release, the individual, who is unnamed, was able to self-extricate and was treated by emergency medical services. “Human-triggered avalanches are very likely on all steep slopes,” the release said. “New snow is overloading an exceptionally weak snow pack. Avoid avalanche terrain and avalanche run out zones.”
