Meridian Fire Department extinguishes garage fire caused by overheated tool batteries

The Meridian Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a structure fire at approximately 5:47 p.m. in Meridian on the 2000 block of Weimaraner Way. Reports indicated the fire ignited in the garage area of the residence. Meridian Firefighters encountered smoke from the structure, and the fire was extinguished, minimizing potential damage to the property. An emergency response effort involving five engines, one truck, an EMS unit and a battalion chief was mobilized. All occupants present during the incident, including their pets, evacuated safely with no reported injuries. A subsequent investigation revealed the fire was caused by rechargeable tool batteries stored on shelves within the garage overheating.
