Improper disposal of smoking materials was the cause of a fire that caused approximately $50,000 worth of damage last week to a home on West Road, investigators said. The blaze at 50 West Road was reported shortly before 6 p.m. on Wednesday. Two people were displaced, however, no injuries were reported. Jennifer Mieth, spokeswoman for the state Fire Marshal’s office, said the cause was determined following a joint-investigation between that office and the Longmeadow Fire Department. Although initial reports estimated the damage at $70,000, Mieth reported estimated damage is $50,000.
