The Sandwich Fire Department has completed the first phase of its move into the new headquarters building on the corner of Quaker Meetinghouse and Cotuit roads.
As of yesterday, August 22, the department’s administration has moved into the new building. The move was completed a day earlier than Chief John J. Burke had anticipated. He said earlier in the week that he expected to be moved in by today, August 23.
All administrative personnel are now stationed in the new building, including those in the chief’s office, the deputy chief’s office, fire prevention and Emergency Medical Service. Blood pressure can still be taken at the Route 6A building.
Chief Burke said they will have the new station fully operational by the first day of school, if not earlier.
“We’re hoping to possibly get the trucks in here around August 30 instead of September 3,” he said. “But we still have September 3 as the opening target date.”
