On Sunday, May 26, Operation Service Inc., a 501c3 Fitchburg nonprofit agency focused on support of U.S. military and first-responders, presented the Fitchburg Fire Department with a $1,000 donation to be used toward needed upgrades to the Fitchburg Fire Fighter Memorial. "The Fitchburg firefighters have been great supporters of Operation Service, and this was a great opportunity for us to show our gratitude," said Joe Firmani, director. The Fitchburg Firefighters Relief Association will remodel the monument in Fitchburg's Upper Common. The major addition will be two granite monuments that will include the names of all deceased firefighters, 256 names to date, and there will be space to include future firefighters who pass. New walkways, lighting and shrubbery will also be added.
