VIDEO: West Springfield firefighters went through a training exercise today that could one day save their lives. Each firefighter maneuvered through a maze of obstacles to practice their search and rescue skills. Personnel from the Massachusetts Fire Services measured how much air they use during the exercise. "It's amazing how small rooms get when you start placing heat and smoke and dark environment. It's amazing how small a bedroom will get." LT. CJ Batone, West Springfield Fire Department. This is one of only two such Training Maze Fire Trailers in Massachusetts. It's based at the fire training academy in Indian Orchard. The van is available to all fire departments here in western Massachusetts.
