Firefighters put out a kitchen fire just after 2 p.m. Thursday. The fire, in a first-floor apartment at 81 School St., was reported to the Whitman Fire Department around 1:40 p.m. Firefighters found fire spreading in the kitchen. Firefighters from Whitman, Hanson and East Bridgewater put out the fire in 15 minutes. No one was hurt, but the building’s four residents will be displaced because of smoke, fire and water damage to the building. The fire appears to have started with grease in a cooking pan, according to a written statement from the Whitman Fire Department. The resident tried to put out the fire with flour, but the flames only spread.
