One woman was burned and suffered from smoke inhalation when fire broke out in her 25 Athol St. home Sunday night. Springfield Fire Department spokesman, Fire Captain Brian Tetreault said firefighters were able to contain the fire to the first floor of the 2 1/2-story single-family home. An elderly resident of the home suffered first-degree burns to her hands as well as smoke inhalation before she was evacuated from the burning structure. She was treated for her injuries at the scene, Tetreault said. The woman and two other adults were forced from the home by the fire and are being assisted by the American Red Cross. The Springfield Arson and Bomb Squad is investigating to determine the exact cause of the fire. Tetreault said the building sustained approximately $80,000 in damage.
