PHOTOS: Nantucket firefighters remain on the scene of a major fire that ripped through a large commercial building off Nobadeer Farm Road Thursday morning.
The blaze, reported just before 6:20 a.m. at 43 Nobadeer Farm Road, completely gutted the two-and-a-half- to three-story, six-bay structure in the largely commercial neighborhood home to many building-trades companies near Nantucket Memorial Airport.
Neighbors said they were awakened around 6:15 a.m. by loud pops, booms and bangs, and saw smoke and flames leaping into the sky.
Nantucket police cordoned off the area, keeping vehicles and pedestrians away from the fire. As of 8 a.m. Nobadeer Farm Road between Hinsdale Road and Old South Road remained closed to vehicles.
