Firefighters endured “extremely dangerous” conditions, including multiple explosions and a partial roof collapse, while fighting a garage fire Wednesday morning, the fire chief said.
The Middleboro Fire Department responded to a report of a garage fire at 171 Old Miller St. at about 11:15 a.m.
When firefighters arrived, there was heavy fire coming from the garage, which is not attached to the house, according to Fire Chief Lance Benjamino.
Firefighters battled “several explosions,” Benjamino said, due to gas and propane tanks that were inside the garage.
“We had a partial building collapse,” the chief said. “The main beam across the building collapsed and the front of the building came down.”
There were three vehicles and a lawnmower inside the garage at the time of the fire, Benjamino said.
