Area firefighters will return to the Joshua Hill area Friday morning to resume their efforts against a brush fire that has so far scorched approximately 20 acres. Firefighters from numerous area towns, along with a state police helicopter, joined the effort Thursday, according to a post on the department’s Facebook page. Firefighters ask residents to avoid the Leverett Pond and Montague Road areas if possible. The fire, as of Thursday, was not encroaching on any homes. The Colrain Firefighters’ Association, in a post on its Facebook page Friday morning, stated crews worked into the night attempting contain the fire. Seven Colrain firefighters, who brought along the department’s utility vehicle, responded to the blaze Thursday as part of the Franklin County Wildland Strike team. The department plans to send additional firefighters today.
