PHOTO: A two-alarm fire destroyed a lakeside cottage at 38 Stevens Park Road Wednesday evening. The cottage, which was undergoing renovations, was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived shortly after it was reported around 5:30 p.m., Fire Chief Edward J. Knopf said. About 25 firefighters, including those who came in as mutual aid from Southbridge, Sturbridge, Dudley and Auburn, battled the blaze, bringing it under control about 6:45 p.m., Knopf said. Fire investigators are working with the state Fire Marshal's Office to determine the cause of the fire. No one was inside when the blaze broke out, Knopf said. One firefighter was "checked out" after becoming lightheaded and was OK, Knopf said.
