Gov. Charlie Baker has signed a bill that takes new steps to address the mental health crisis in Massachusetts. The new law expands mental health access and will take on a practice called "ED boarding," when patients in need of a mental health bed at a hospital are forced to wait for days and weeks in emergency departments until a mental health bed becomes available. “Today I am pleased to sign legislation that expands access to behavioral health services, enhances our understanding of behavioral health challenges and takes steps to ensure our health care system treats mental health the same way we do physical health," Baker said in a statement released Wednesday.
