Local fire departments were called to Redfern Drive Wednesday evening for reports of smoke coming from a residence. According to Longmeadow Deputy Fire Chief John Rigney, at approximately 6 p.m., Westcomm Regional Dispatch received a call from a resident on Redfern Drive reporting smoke coming from somewhere in the house. Upon arrival, fire crews observed smoke emerging from the home and encountered a minor smoke condition inside the residence. Due to potential severity, mutual aid was requested from the East Longmeadow Fire Department.
Firefighters identified the source of the smoke as a small outside fire that had extended into the siding of the home. The fire was quickly extinguished, limiting damage to the property to minor levels.
