VIDEO: A house fire on Springfield Street in Chicopee drew a large emergency response on Thursday. The incident happened next to a church in a historic part of the city.
When our crew arrived on-scene, some flames and a lot of smoke could be seen coming from the single-family home, which is next to Christ’s Community Church and just up the road from both Chicopee City Hall and Elms College. The home is also diagonally across the street from the former Paulo Freire Social Justice Charter School.
The two-alarm fire began just after 11:30 a.m. and, while the fire was knocked down within 15 minutes, it was still a very smoky situation and crews worked for at least an hour to knock down some hot spots.
