VIDEO: It’s National Public Safety Telecommunicators week and Springfield dispatchers were recognized for their work. Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno visited the Springfield`s Emergency Communications team at the Fire Dispatch Office Tuesday to thank them for all that they do. This week is a time to honor dispatchers who are the calm voice in the storm and the first to assist the community in their time of need. Deputy Chief of Staff Services with the Springfield Fire Department, David Wells, told 22News that dispatchers all over the country are the unseen heroes of the system, “They are really the first, first responders. When you have a bad day, you reach out to them and they are going to send the resources to help. Without them, we can’t send police or fire trucks so they play a big part.”
