For several years Dryden Township Fire Dept. Firefighter Nathan Denryter skated in the Guns and Hoses benefit hockey game in Lapeer to help raise money for cancer research. Now Denryter, who’s also a Lapeer school teacher and a National Guardsman, is fighting stage four cancer. Stepping up to lend a hand, Paul Abromaitis, owner of Almont Hideaway Lanes, will host a Nate- A-Palooza — a bowling/euchre fundraiser for Denryter on Friday (Dec. 6) at the bowling center, 4550 Howland Rd., Almont. Denryter was diagnosed with cancer just after returning from his fourth tour of duty in Afghanistan. In 2014, Denryter and two other firefighters were recognized for saving the life of a man having a heart attack at the Polar Palace in Lapeer. “He was my mentor when I joined the department,” said Dryden firefighter Jim Napalitano.
