An elderly couple was seriously injured in an accidental fire that broke out Monday afternoon in a Shelby Township apartment complex. Capt. Matt Rieper of the Shelby Township Fire Department said firefighters responded about 1:30 p.m. to a report of a fire at Vista Lakes Apartments on Shelby Road between 24 Mile and 25 Mile roads. When fire crews arrived, they found the couple unconscious in their burning apartment unit. Rieper said the victims were pulled from the flames and transported to Beaumont Hospital in Troy for treatment. Later Monday, they were transferred to Detroit Receiving Hospital.
