Exeter Township has received a $17,500 grant from the La-Z-Boy Foundation to buy turnout gear for its volunteer fire department. The money will be used to buy about a half-dozen gear outfits for the 24-member volunteer force, fire Chief Don Sweeney said. The grant will come in handy for the department, which is strapped for funds to finance operations. “This is just what we needed,” Sweeney said Wednesday. “We’re up a little on our calls. We have a lot of medical” rescues. He and Exeter Supervisor Bob Queen presented a plaque of appreciation to the foundation Wednesday for the grant. Accompanying them were Anne Kleinow, deputy supervisor, who helped complete the grant application process that was started by former Deputy Supervisor Brian Lucas, and another firefighter.
