Firefighters in Adrian battled a suspicious fire Monday morning that was only one street over from a similarly suspicious fire last week. According to Capt. Eddie Mathis of the Adrian Fire Department, firefighters were dispatched to the scene at 7:52 a.m. for smoke coming out of a two-story house at 1013 Erie St. The Adrian Fire Department was automatically assisted by Adrian Township and Madison Township fire departments. “When we got there, we had heavy fire showing out of the ... first floor,” Mathis said. “So we were able to get a crew in there and get the first floor knocked down.” Because the Labor Day holiday could have meant less firefighters available to answer the call, Mathis called for a box alarm at 8:06 a.m., which brought them a fire engine from Raisin Township Fire Department and units from the Palmyra Township Fire Department moved into Adrian’s fire station.
