Investigators are trying to determine the cause of four suspicious fires in Battle Creek early Tuesday. Battle Creek firefighters were called within 2 ½ hours to the four fires - three on the city's north side and the fourth a block south of Dickman Road. Firefighters said each of the homes was vacant and they found no one inside. No injuries were reported. Firefighters from Emmett, Pennfield and Bedford townships assisted with the fires and also with other calls for service. Battle Creek Fire Marshal Quincy Jones was beginning his investigations and said it appears both fires on Oaklawn Avenue and Wabash Avenue were started from the outside of the buildings.
