Three Oakland County fire departments will receive over $1.2 million worth of federal grants to upgrade outdated equipment and recruit new firefighters. These grants include $471,838 for the Northville, $443,106 for Auburn Hills, and $113,334 for Hazel Park. Funding comes from both the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) program and the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grants program. AFG grants help first responders purchase equipment and obtain training. SAFER grants are designed to strengthen a department's ability to respond to fire and fire-related hazards.
