A building on the property of a Montrose Township church burned Tuesday night, but the church -- just 15 feet away -- was not damaged, according to officials.
Firefighters responded around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25 to Montrose Family Worship Center, 9453 W. Vienna Road, between McKinley and Seymour roads.
The fire started in a community center owned by the church, Montrose Township Fire Chief George Taylor said. The church building did not sustain any damage, he confirmed. It took firefighters four hours to extinguish the fire, Taylor said. No one was injured.
The fire led officials to close a portion of Vienna Road (M-57), which was reopened around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, he said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Taylor said.
The community center sustained extensive damage inside and some damage on its exterior. Firefighters had to cut a hole in the roof to release heat from inside the building.
