Mundy Township officials will give a little extra attention to their fire department in coming weeks as they look to add more firefighters to the ranks and improve the agency’s public education efforts.
“One thing the township is really focusing on is doing some strategic planning for our fire department,” said Mundy Township Manager Chad Young. “To address anything else, we have to make sure our recruitment is effective. We need to make sure we are properly staffed and adequately trained. Recruitment has been a challenge over last few years.”
First and foremost, the township needs more paid-oncall firefighters, particularly people who are available to respond during daytime hours.
“That’s really nothing new in the realm of fire departments, particularly part-time, on-call fire departments,” said Young.
