A slow-burning fire, fueled by numerous combustible items and a supply of fresh air, destroyed a large cape cod in Wyandotte. Police officers were the first to arrive at the scene, in the 2300 block of 21st Street, at 10:59 p.m. Jan. 13. According to police, the seven officers who responded to the report of a possible house fire did not know if the residence was occupied. Upon arrival, officers observed dark smoke billowing out from different areas of the roof. The reporting officer stated that the front door was locked. Upon entering the house, heavy smoke immediately billowed out from the front door. Police announced their presence in an attempt to speak to any possible occupants, but no one answered. Officers then went to the backyard. One of the officers attempted to enter through the rear door, but a steel cage blocked the door.
