An Indiana man drowned in Lake Michigan Thursday evening while trying to save his children.
First responders were called to Lions Park beach in St. Joseph around 8 p.m. on a report of four people struggling in the water.
Two people were rescued by a person on a surfboard.
The other two were siblings, ages 17 and 12, who were caught in an undertow, according to ABC57.
Their father, a 44-year-old from Lakeville, Ind., went out into the water to help them. He went under while trying to save them and did not survive, according to police. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
A first responder was able to get to the teenager and child and get them to safety.
The name of the man has not been released.
