One person died inside a home that exploded and caught fire in Muskegon Heights Tuesday morning.
Muskegon Heights Fire Chief Christopher Dean said firefighters discovered human remains in the small home that exploded around 5 a.m. March 17. The home was on Superior Street north of East Delano Avenue. “After extinguishing the fire, fire crews digging through the collapsed structure debris trying to extinguish hot spots found early this morning what they believed to be human remains,” Dean said.
The identity of the individual, as well as that person’s race, gender and approximate age, have yet to be determined, he said.
Multiple callers reported a loud explosion just before 5 a.m., Dean said. The home, which he estimated at under 900 square feet, was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived, he said.
