Fire destroyed a house on Houseman Avenue NE late Thursday, May 14.
The 1 ½-story house, in the 1500 block of Houseman, was engulfed in flames when Grand Rapids firefighters were dispatched at 10:06 p.m. Firefighters used a deck gun to attack the fire while other firefighters set up hoses.
No injuries were reported. Because of the amount of fire, firefighters initially had to a defensive position before making an offensive attack.
Firefighters searched both floors for possible victims but were hampered by holes in the floor. The stairs leading to the upper floor were burned away so firefighters used ladders for access, firefighters said.
Firefighters had to work around a downed power line in the yard.
