A downtown Detroit shoe repair shop is a "total loss" after a fire swept through the building Thursday afternoon. Tip Toe Shoes, at 141 Michigan Avenue next to Detroit's iconic American and Lafayette Coney Island, has been in the city since 1995. It is a leather repair shop known for its "old-timey" aesthetic. Deputy Fire Commissioner Dave Fornell says the fire was at risk of spreading and the first company of firefighters at the scene called in a second company. There were 50 firefighters in total at the store. There are no injuries. Fornell says he was not sure how many people were in the store, but there were at least two. One was an employee who said to him when she went to the back of the store it was engulfed in flames. Firefighters are still on the scene checking inside walls to see if there are hidden flames.
