Although the skies were overcast for the annual Cheboygan Fire Department Kids' Day Picnic at Gordon Turner Park on Sunday, hundreds of kids and their families still attended the event. "It was an amazing turnout and a beautiful day for it," said Cheboygan Fire Department Chief Don Dailey. The event at City Beach in Cheboygan started at 1 p.m. and members of the department took turns grilling the hotdogs and serving them to members of the community who attended the picnic, along with chips and orange drink. All of the food served at the picnic was donated by the sponsors of this year's event — Family Fare of Cheboygan, McDonald's of Cheboygan, Lay's Potato Chips and Ryba Marine. "We went through a lot of hotdogs," said Dailey. "There were over 800 served." The muggy weather helped "the biggest waterslide in Northern Michigan" be a big hit with the children who came to the picnic.
