An air duct fire Thursday at NeoPapalis Pizza in Ann Arbor led to the evacuation of dozens of workers and residents of an attached apartment complex, officials said. Firefighters received reports of smoke at 12:53 p.m., June 17 at Z West Apartments, 401 Thompson St., Ann Arbor Fire Department Chief Mike Kennedy said. The smoke originated from a fire in the air ducts of NeoPapalis Pizza, 500 E. William St., Kennedy said. Those flames spread to the third-floor roof that connects the restaurant to the apartment complex, which primarily houses University of Michigan students, Kennedy said. The smoke billowed into the higher floors of the apartment complex, but no rooms in the complex ever caught fire, Kennedy said. No injuries were reported by Kennedy or representatives of Huron Valley Ambulance.
