A man was killed and another critically injured Wednesday, June 29, in a head-on crash on Kalamazoo Avenue SE north of 76th Avenue.
A 42-year-old Caledonia man died while a 29-year-old Alto man suffered life-threatening injuries.
The crash was reported just after 8:30 p.m. on Kalamazoo Avenue at Crystal Springs Boulevard in Gaines Township, Kent County sheriff’s deputies said.
Police said the Caledonia man was driving a Chevrolet Trailblazer south on Kalamazoo when the vehicle crossed the center turn lane and struck a northbound GMC Terrain. The Caledonia man died at the scene. The Alto man was trapped in his vehicle until he was removed by Dutton firefighters using extrication tools. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition, police said.
The sheriff’s Traffic Unit continues to investigate.
