Funding from the state is helping Mid-Michigan communities protect its staff and citizens.
Lansing Township’s fire and police departments, along with the village of Dansville are getting some of that money from the State Department of Treasury’s Financially Distressed Cities, Villages and Townships grant to replace old equipment and bring their infrastructure up to date.
With a total award of $138,000, Lansing Township Fire Department is able to purchase new breathing equipment, as well as a fill station to fill up oxygen tanks. Firefighter Colby Winter, who wrote both the fire department and police department grants, said it’s a crucial piece of the teams’ gear. He’s eager to have the newest model.
“I’m just thankful that we were able to work with our township administrators and the State Department of Treasury to make this happen,” he said.
