VIDEO: Rescue Dog hosted a grand opening for its first franchise trailer in Kalispell on Thursday. The owners make gourmet hot dogs for the Flathead Valley community and give back at the same time. The menu includes seven specialty hot dogs, and a mutt dog, which is a build-your-own. They donate a portion of every sale to the Humane Society of Northwest Montana. Rescue Dog started with a 1972 Gerteslager fire truck, which was used as a heavy rescue vehicle in the early ’70s. It was decommissioned in the 1990s and bought by a band of ex-firefighters who chased fires and fed firefighters from the truck. The fire truck is now used for promotion. “We had found this fire truck, loved the idea, thought, “Hey, what about hot dogs, and that’s kind of how it started with Rescue Dog. Then we also think it’s important to give back to our furry friends in our communities,” Amanda Hunt, the franchise owner of Rescue Dog Food Truck, said.
