The Bureau of Land Management's Missoula Field Office will begin prescribed burning in the Blackfoot River Corridor in coming weeks. Burning is likely to occur mid-Sept. and end of Oct. depending on weather conditions. Burns could take several days to complete and BLM plans to burn multiple units in Missoula County ranging from 40 acres to 640 acres along Blackfoot River between Nine Mile Prairie and Johnsrud Park. Prescribed burning is used to reduce hazardous fuels to mitigate the risk of wildfires. The U.S. Bureau of Land Management released the following information: "The Bureau of Land Management’s Missoula Field Office is getting ready for prescribed burning in the Blackfoot River Corridor in the coming weeks."
