VIDEO: Two retired Burlington firefighters spent the last month fixing up a 1924 firetruck named Maude. Maude, an American LaFrance pumper truck which has been sitting at Station 2 on East Webb Avenue, came to the Burlington Fire Department in October 1924. Over the years, the six-engine truck has been refurbished and fixed up by fire personnel. “If you had a shift down here, you worked on Maude,” said retired battalion chief Danny Morton. “When I come to work here in 1972, we were working on it then.” The 95-year-old truck was used in parades, car shows and other events, but somewhere in the last decade or so, Maude stopped working, though her siren works fine. She was then towed out to functions, including the downtown Burlington Dickens Christmas event, but was not able to run on her own.
