Crews are fighting a wildfire in Pender County near the Holly Shelter Game Land. Pender County Deputy Fire Marshal Michael Carlisle said the fire has spread to approximately 10 acres off U.S. 17, near Pinnacle Parkway. He said the N.C. Forestry Service is fighting the fire with crews and water drops from the sky. While he said there is no immediate threat to buildings from the fire, Pender County EMS and fire crews are on standby near homes on Pinnacle Parkway and Scrub Oaks Drive. “Everything’s secure right now,” he said. It’s not immediately clear what caused the fire, but Carlisle said the Forestry Service will conduct an investigation once the fire is out.
