A man was arrested on several charges after police say he set multiple things on fire across the town of Albemarle early Wednesday morning. The investigation began around midnight when officers responded to a fire at the building beside the Hartsell Funeral Home on N. Second Street. That fire was extinguished before the building could burn completely down, officials said. While fighting that fire, officers found a Jeep Grand Cherokee behind the building that had also been set on fire. That fire was quickly put out as well. As another officer was responding to the first two fires, he saw a dumpster on fire behind City Hall on the same street. The officer tried to put out the fire with his extinguisher, but the fire department had to be called to get it under control. A short time later, a utility pole in the parking lot of the Stanly County Library was set on fire.
