A fire that destroyed a furnished but unoccupied mobile home on Mountain Valley Drive in Traphill Monday morning is being investigated due to its suspicious nature, said Wilkes Fire Marshal Kevin Bounds. Bounds said owner Cynthia Darnell recently had someone evicted from the mobile home and it hasn’t had any electricity or other power service since May. He said Darnell had no insurance on the structure. Darnell also lives on Mountain Valley Drive, about a quarter of a mile away from the burned mobile home. Bounds said the mobile home and its contents were a total loss. The fire appeared to have started in a bedroom on one end and spread throughout the structure, said Bounds, adding that the loss had an estimated value of $75,000.
