Late night blaze damages popular Harkers Island restaurant

A popular Harkers Island restaurant was heavily damaged when a fire broke out at the eatery Friday night, authorities said. The Harkers Island Fire Rescue Department posted pictures on its Facebook page of its firefighters working to extinguish the blaze out at Captain's Choice restaurant, located at 977 Island Road near Ferry Dock Road. Firefighters were called to the seafood restaurant shortly after 11 p.m. According to reports, it took firefighters up to three hours to bring the blaze under control. The cause of the fire was not immediately released. The eatery has been in business at least 30 years.
